The Beach at Penang

Penang

Although it's the same in many ways
It's different in small ways.
The beach mongrels have bobbed tails.
There's two Japanese girls
Wading in the shallow surf
Morosely staring at the offing.

The fishing skiffs, hauled above the tide line

Have sharply curved bows with scarlet trim.
Faintly the Muezzin's call to prayer

Drifts down from the village

Competing with the surf and

Rustling palms for my attention.
