Attended my San Bernardino High School 50th class reunion over the weekend. It's the first one I've ever been to. It was a hoot! Most people are unrecognizable compared to their graduation pics ... me included. Lots of grey hair... most are retired. Lots of gushing by the women about grand-kids. Surprising lack of talk about politics and the sad economy, most just happy to be alive and in reasonably good health.
Reconnected with my two best buds from grammar and middle school Russel Mullens and Pete Rhein. Great memories. Their loving families often shared their warmth and kindness with me during the tumultuous teen years. At various times I was in love with both of the beautiful Mullens girls who had the good sense to ignore my advances. The emotions of seeing Rusty, Pete and others are best described in the following little ditty that was on a small plaque next to the front door of the Mullens home where I spent much of my youth.
Friendship
Friendship ain't just a shak'in hands
and saying how-dee-do
It grips a feller by the heart
and warms him through and through.
