Day 5

This was a day at home - if you can call hanging out in a 30 ft fiberglass box on a gravel pad surrounded by monster RV’s bristling with satellite dishes, dog kennels, Astroturf carpeted patios littered with plastic plants -being home! It was a day of catching up on work, answering e-mails and making minor adjustments to El Gato.

Jim Stoll, an avid RV’er and friend, suggested a solution to our white-knuckle high speed drifting when there’s any sort of lateral breeze. It’s an after-market hitch called the Hensley Arrow. It’s a bit strange looking and very expensive but, according to Jim and a bunch of testimonials on the web, it is a game changer as far as stability and ease of driving is concerned. Jill said she’d give up quilting to offset the cost (not really but it’s a good idea).

Golf tomorrow at one of Saint George’s 10 courses!

  1. John -- I read with interest your swaying trailer experience... been there over the years with unwieldy horse trailers. We used sway bars, or "Easy Lifts." It sounds like you have found teh 21st century of the same. Once in place your trailer and vehicle become one. My SUV blew a tire while towing with the lift bars in place. The trailer supported the SUV until I released the bars. Then the SUV simply dropped hard. Gave us amazing control. Good luck with your new application!

  2. What a shame you didn't get to Moab. Surely the most interesting hike we ever had was to Delicate Arch in Arches National Park. It was just surreal.
